BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb.17
By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:
Azerbaijan has sufficient reserve to increase gas supplies to Europe, the country’s deputy energy minister Elnur Soltanov said, Trend reports.
Nevertheless, as distinct from the oil market, gas deliveries are increased upon consumer requests, he explained.
“Gas fields are developed only if you have consumers and signed contracts,” Soltanov told Anadolu agency.
He pointed out that it is very difficult to ensure supply and demand balance for oil and gas without having a strategic vision.
“It requires six or seven years to start production at a new field. Moreover, investments are needed for maintaining the infrastructure on the active fields. Therefore, it is important to calculate everything and have a strategic approach to the issue,” added the deputy minister.
Soltanov spoke about the serious efforts to implement green energy concept worldwide.
“Although natural gas is considered to be the most environmentally friendly fossil fuel, there are still discrepancies on this issue amid the global climate change," he added.
